Katie Gregory Crowned Victor at Charity Boxing Match

10/02/2016

From coffee rings to boxing rings, our cleaner Katie Gregory traded in her ResQ pinafore for her boxing gloves to take part in a charity boxing match, raising money for Cancer Research. We were proud to sponsor and support Katie and now, after her big win, she tells us more about the evening and why she took part.

Tell us a bit about this boxing match.

The boxing match was at Ultra White Collar Boxing (UWCB), near Anlaby road. The match was in aid of Cancer Research and there were a total of 14 matches throughout the night. It’s very similar to the boxing event we have here at ResQ.

What made you sign up for the event?

I was just browsing through Facebook one day, and I came across a sponsored posts which advertised the event and when I saw it was to raise money for Cancer Research, I was sold. I’d never done anything like this before, but I’ve always struggled with confidence issues, and low self esteem, and I thought this would be a great way for me to build on that and prove to myself I have the confidence to do it.

How much did you train for the match?

I trained for 8 weeks. It’s part of the event. We trained down at Slaughterhouse Gym and focused mainly on sparring, abs and cardio.

How did it feel to win?

Brilliant! I wasn’t exactly nervous before the match, but I didn’t feel like I was confident enough to win. During the match you kind of just black out everything around you and focus on the match, so I didn’t really think about if I could win or not. I went in with no expectations, and then came out with a trophy, so it was a great surprise. Considering I hadn’t done anything like this before, it was an amazing feeling.

Will you be doing more events like this now?

Yes definitely. I think I’m going to sign up for the ResQ boxing match this year. I wanted to do it last year but I was too nervous to go for it. After doing this, it’s definitely built my confidence up and I’ve prove to myself that I can do it if I just go for it. I also want to continue boxing during my spare time too.
