On day one of our homeworking setup plan, we asked ourselves, “How do we get the teams working remotely while keeping them engaged, productive and energised?”
As a business, we pride ourselves on being able to constantly change and innovate to exceed expectations. Though this was a challenge we’d never faced, it was one we were certainly up for. We’re still learning from this every day, but here’s what we’ve learnt so far.
Communication is key
Being in isolation is challenging, and it’s important to maintain a personal connection while working from home. This is why at ResQ, we make video calls and group chats one of our top priorities, keeping the teams connected and allowing them to share how they’re getting on. We’ve even added dedicated time to the beginning of each call to ask team members how they’re feeling.
Our business is built on communication and outstanding team spirit, so keeping our culture live in the business is paramount. We truly believe that it’s better to over-communicate than to lose touch.
Look after your team’s wellbeing
This is something we’re very passionate about at ResQ. Emailing each other simply isn’t enough, so as well as daily check-ins via video calls, we’ve decided to start sharing daily workouts which can be done at home to keep the team moving and motivated.
Recognise achievement and celebrate success
We’re still doing plenty to highlight the success of our staff and are continuing to celebrate anniversaries and special days via social media and RAY. We’ve also introduced some fun initiatives to keep the team motivated, one of which being the Spin the Wheel Challenge whereby staff can win a range of prizes including Amazon, Love2Shop and Apple Store/Google Play vouchers.
With positive feedback being such a big part of our culture at ResQ, we’re doing everything we can to provide feedback about what the team is doing well, too.
Social interaction
Our teams are always involved in sharing business targets, success stories, and company updates, and many people will be missing the social element of work. With this in mind, we’ve set up the ResQ Community Hub Facebook group for staff to interact with each other and join in fun challenges and games. We also have a separate area on RAY, our intranet, for team members to socialise.
Give everyone the tools they need
When we started the transition from office to home, it was crucial we made sure everybody had the kit ready to do their job and, to do it compliantly.
Thanks to our incredible senior leadership team, over 300 PCs were personally delivered to sales agents’ homes to get them set up and ready for home working, fully equipped with the right software and security measures.
Don’t forget to take care of yourself
While we want to give our all to our team, we recognise how important it is to take care of our own wellbeing, too, and it is ok to indulge in a little self-care without feeling guilty. It’ll benefit the team in the long run.
Our homeworking solution has enabled ResQ to continue with business as usual, and that’s something we’re extremely proud of. We know we have a duty of care to our staff and clients that’s not just about sickness, but also about maintaining economic activity in the UK.
